Watchtower / Jackson video site issue -- an update
by Fatfreek ini surely don't want to beat a dead horse but this one's still breathing.
the wts needs to be held responsible.
they have tax-free status in our u.s.a. -- a position that certainly should not / must not be extended to organizations which are guilty of fraud.

Don't worry, they'll be taking it down sooner or later. Their website is not their #1 priority and I think that has more to do with it than anything. I also believe they simply don't want to empower "apostates" with the idea that they are able to be affected by them.
The WTS has a very blunt policy about ignoring those they consider to be apostates. If people on the outside can force them into action they can appear weak. Taking this video down after a long peroid of time has elapsed would take away some of the sting.

First of all let me say what I haven't yet said.
Welcome to the forum!
A number of people here are giving you rebuttles and arguments that could be used. I think that in a situation like yours logicial argumentation means very little. Your hubby is currently an active member of a minority reilgion that believes the entire cosmos revolves around it. The Watchtower is a self centered ideologicial system and you are starting to notice that attitude leaking into the everyday life of your marriage.
I think taking your time and educating yourself about where your husband is will be the most beneficial for you. The more you learn about why he actually is acting that way, the better you will find creative ways to cope with it.
It's important to relaize that religions like the JWs do provide their members with a number of differant "benefits". This can include (but is not limited to) giving people security, confidence, a feeling of superiority, and hope. Right now you are starting to see how your husband is becoming indulgent in his piety, the superiority that the group is giving is just pouring out of him. He is really feeling superior, and is letting you know it.
He says these things so that you will challenge him on "intellectual" points. He wants to argue with you about what he believes is "the truth". He wants to prove to you that he has the "the truth".
If you don't know it already, JWs cheat when they debate.Getting into arguments with JWs can be quite pointless, because they never debate fairly. They have no concept of the idea that you can win an argument but still be wrong. They will call you names, reason in a circle, use special pleading, ect. What you need to know is that engaging them can really turn into a mess because they will never be fair, they will do whatever it takes to win an argument no matter how dirty the tactic.
Take time to learn about why he believes what he does (or why anybody does for that matter). Understand where he is. Also take time to study logicial fallicies and proper argumentation. Stay away from arguments about "the truth" they are just a trick.
Keep us posted and ask lots of questions. We will help you out!

That is quite an old article!
I remember going door to door 3-4 years ago when that article was on the cover. One old lady was very angry about it, yelled at my friend who was offering it. She was old and seemed a little bit spaced out. I think she had been watching a lot of TV and was all fired up about some crime story hot in the news at the time. That was my guess to why she blew up on my friend.

Where have you turned to?
by Robert7 ini am very curious, since i am myself trying to figure out where to turn to, if anywhwere.
(i am still debating if i am truly an atheist at heart and religion in general turns me off at least as of now) where have you turned to since you left the wt?
i would imagine that many people who became witnesses had spiritual needs (which is ironic why i am feeling atheist, lol) but have you gone to other churches, stopped going to church, become atheist, etc?

A common argument that JWs use against fellow JWs questioning leaving the group is "where else will I go?".
Of course one doesn't have adopt a new belief before he dismisses his old one. As has been discussed on this board before, to do so is to simply rely upon a burning house argument (demand a person give you a new how before you leave the one you are in, which is burning down). Some leave the JWs by conversion to another system (i.e. a differant version of Christianity, Islam, Mormonism, ect), in this sense they base their decision not only upon the wrongs that are eaisly identifiable within the WTS, but also because of it's disagreement with the new system they now prefer.
I would say that after leaving the JWs I really haven't "turned" to anything in the most absolute sense because any belief or philosophy I entertain never holds the same kind of grip on my mind that the JWs ever did.

Witnesses are Just Protestants on Crack.
by jwfacts in... or is lsd.. i do not affiliate myself with any religious organization.
in one of the few conversations i have had with any of my family members since being disfellowshipped, my aunty said that was logical that i can not find another religion, as if i was not going to be a jw then "there certainly isn't any other religion that is better.
" to me that sort of thinking could only come from someone tripping.

Observation of WT during Assembly
by Robert7 inso i recently attended an assembly day, and this added ammo as to why i am turned off:
- they did a very good job saying how anything that is not 'of jehovah' is worldly and from the devil.
so black & white.

Welcome to the forum Robert
Yes, I sat through the same sorts of assemblies, thinking the same exact things. They define what truth is because they have the power to do so. You're opening your eyes, congrats!

A gradual decline or sudden collapse for the WTS?
by DT inmany of us believe the days of the watchower society may be numbered.
they are receiving an unprecedented amount of well deserved negative publicity.
however, they are still experiencing modest growth.

The Watchtower Society will continue to adapt and evolve to make sure of its own survival.
Eventually the dramatic expectation regarding thefullfillment of the "end times" will be traded for a much more conservative model. It may not happen today or tomarrow, but give it fifty years or so. Eventually the hopes of the group will be faced with disconformation, the realization that what they assumed about the "end of all things" wasn't correct. They will then find ways to move their group beyond such hopes. They will survive.
I do believe that 30-50 years from now the reilgion will look much differant from what it is today only because if it doesn't then it will not survivie. Whle the WTS proclaims that they see the world in black and white, they have shown that by their actions that they are planning in the grey.
